It's an often asked question: why are some people seem to be lucky in life while others constantly struggle? In the same way, it could be asked why some network marketers enjoy luck and success while the majority of them fail.
'Luck' is defined as "the chance happening of fortunate or adverse events". The Roman philosopher Seneca once described luck as "what happens when preparation meets opportunity". In other words you need to be in a position to take advantage of favourable events should they come your way. People who seem 'lucky' actually put themselves in a position of high probability so 'luck' seems to come their way.
To understand this completely, we need to consider natural laws and how they affect our daily lives. The laws of attraction, abundance, participation and expectation are all in effect every day. So, it could be concluded that luck is a favourable combination of several natural laws. However we must put ourselves in the path of success and let these laws bring what many refer to as 'luck' to us.
The point here is that 'luck' in the sense of being at the perfect spot at the perfect time solely by chance, can not happen. There are numerous inspirational quotes that I could use in an article like this but the one that really stands out to me is from the champion golfer Gary Player. He famously stated that "the harder I work, the luckier I get" and this remains today solid advice that can apply to everyone in network marketing.
Benjamin Franklin once said that "diligence is the mother of good luck" and there is a huge amount of truth in this. Diligence is defined as "a zealous and careful nature in one's actions and work, exemplified by a decisive work ethic, budgeting of one's time, monitoring one's own activities to guard against laziness, and putting forth full concentration in one's work." This alone proves the truth of Gary Player's words.
When you gain a true understanding of these concepts, it becomes clear that success in network marketing has little to do with luck. People can appear 'lucky' but, in reality what they do is simply position themselves well enough to leverage natural law in their favour. Successful marketers are not lucky. They recognise an opportunity and take advantage of it with decisive action. That's what many people consider as 'luck' but, with an open mind, it's available to anyone.
Marketers are successful because of the huge number of people they send their message to. As a network marketer, you deliver the message at your own cost, whether that is your time, energy, money or most likely, a combination of these. It takes diligence and perseverance. You understand that marketing is a numbers game and you are constantly willing to learn and improve yourself to make those numbers more in your favour. You stop blaming others for problems and most importantly, think positively. You believe that your dream is alive and will come true.
Luck is associated with winning the lottery or leaving Las Vegas with more money than when you arrived. The ingredients for success in network marketing are quite different and can be summarised as follows:
1. Work Ethic:
Working diligently and putting in the necessary effort to build a business. Using proven marketing techniques while having an open mind to learning and improving.
2. Mindset:
This is arguably the number one reason for success. It is developed over time and involves trusting yourself, positive thinking and visualisation.
3. Perseverance:
Not giving up when things don't go as expected. It means resolving problems and situations promptly so that energy can be devoted to learning and improvement.
4. Confidence:
Successful people are invariably those with high degrees of assertiveness and self-esteem. They adhere to their purpose and work to create conditions that are conducive to success. It is closely linked to trusting others and seeing them as a source of opportunity for achievement. Without confidence you can't 'give yourself' to a situation.
In conclusion, network marketing success can be attributed to a number of essential factors and luck is not one of them. The luck may be finding a suitable opportunity but after that your destiny is in your own hands. Setting goals, working efficiently and persevering will offer the rich rewards. If anyone calls you 'lucky' at that stage, you'll be able to tell them that a pound of pluck is worth more than a ton of luck.
